Raymond Hodgkinson MBE

After starting his career in the Official Solicitors Mental Health Division of the Law Courts he moved on to a career in the Pharmaceutical Industry which led him into the many facets of Healthcare and Assistive Technologies we see today, both in the UK and Internationally.

Ray’s experience covers virtually all aspects of Healthcare. He fulfilled a personal vision to create his own business and pioneered a number of new innovative products over a 22 year period introducing a new device for the treatment of pressure sores, the first Ultra-light weight wheelchair, Nerve Stimulator device for birth pain control and is the person responsible for introducing the Mobility Scooter to the UK in 1978.

Formerly Director General of the British Healthcare Trades Association for 16 years he remains involved as a member of the GS1 Healthcare Advisory Board, Wheelchair Alliance, Convener of the ISO Support Surfaces standards committee and a Director of the Consumer Codes Approval Board.

His role with the BHTA involved a broad spectrum of activities and advising at government level. He has a belief and enthusiasm for the industry and continues to advise on standards and ethics that can earn the respect of all healthcare professionals, the general public and influence policy for Assistive Technology. Some of his work culminated in the BHTA Code of Practice was also Chair of the Code Sponsors Panel for the Consumer Codes Approval Scheme. In 2010 he was awarded the MBE for for services to the Healthcare Industry.

His interests include Gliding, Classic Cars, Antiques, Steam Railways and Gardening.
